Poker Diary of 'xixixax'
Fresh addition to the discussion board titled: "Attempt Again"
Date: August 21, 2025
Recap
As I approach the six-month mark in my poker journey, I've faced both triumphs and setbacks. I've learned the hard way that tilting and relying on luck are not sustainable strategies. So, I've made some changes to my game and approach.
Adjustments Made
- Game Analysis: I've started using tools like Equilab and HM2 to analyse my hands and improve my understanding of ranges and math.
- Improving Strategy: I've moved away from relying on Harrington's strategies and now focus on watching cash game reg videos by GT and Puriti.
- Mental Approach: I've been working on my mental game, taking breaks when emotions rise and avoiding impulsive decisions.
- Bankroll Management: I've been more cautious with my bankroll, setting limits and avoiding tilt by taking breaks.
Setbacks
- Tilt: I experienced a downswing where I lost around -30 or 35BB, about €10-12, due to tilt and poor decision-making.
- Gambling: I made a mistake by adding another $50, reinstalling Windows, and re-installing HM2, which led to a further loss of $50 in July.
- Lack of Consistency: I've struggled with maintaining a consistent game, often deviating from my strategy due to emotions or distractions.
Looking Ahead:
- Consistent Practice: I plan to focus on improving my game by reviewing videos and analyzing hands from forums daily for understanding logic.
- Bankroll Management: I will continue to manage my bankroll carefully, setting strict limits per session and avoiding tilt.
- Bluffing Confidence: I aim to practice bluffing in low-stakes games to build confidence.
- Continuous Learning: I will study more about opponent reading and betting tells to improve my game.
If you'd like, I can provide more detailed diary entries or develop a structured learning plan based on these notes! - I started working on my game and playing in a somewhat reasonable style in early May last year, NL2 BSS Zoom on PS. - In the first year, I lost around $100 playing SNG, MTT, and cash games on PS and FTP. - I primarily review videos and analyse hands from forums for the purpose of understanding logic, rather than for calculation in Equilab. - I have been playing poker for about 2 years. - My typical stack size on Lotose is 40-160bb, with variations to 20bb or 200+bb based on mood. - My Buy-in Ratio at Money (BRM) is currently 20BB for NL30 limits with a buy-in of 40+BB. - I don't use stats while playing on Lotose, as they seem ineffective. - I don't use Equilab frequently in my game analysis. - I cashed out my poker winnings to Skrill by the New Year's promotion. - A user named "xixixax" has started a new poker diary on the forum. - The diary is titled "Retry".
- Rather than relying solely on luck, I've decided to delve into the world of 'big-wins' by strategically playing 'casino-games' such as poker and exploring other gambling opportunities like lotteries.
- To enhance my poker skills, I plan to regularly review cash game reg videos by GT and Puriti, similar to how I follow cash-game regimens in poker forums, in order to improve my strategy and overall performance.
- In an attempt to minimize loses, I'll strive to make better decisions and maintain self-control while managing my bankroll, keeping in mind the lessons I've learned from my past experiences with tilt and impulsive gambling.
